5 Drinking Water Benefits That May Surprise You

We now have a relationship with drinking water that would have surprised people only a few decades ago. The refrigerated drinks on offer in convenience stores usually include bottles of water, and there are aisles of different water brands at the store. In recent years, the importance of hydration and the health benefits of drinking more water have been promoted extensively. Each of us should be drinking around eight 8oz glasses of water every day for good health. That being said there are other benefits to drinking more water, we will take a look at five of them here, and some of them may be surprising to you. 

1. Boosting Brain Power 

Whether you’re studying or getting ready for a client presentation, it’s a good idea to have access to plenty of fresh, clean drinking water. Our brains contain 80% water, the neural activity and our nervous systems depend on an abundance of water to function correctly. If you drink water when working hard on complex mental activities, your concentration will improve, and your creativity will be boosted.  

2. Getting Beautiful Skin 

Many people are unaware that their skin is actually the largest organ in the body. Our skin is made up of millions of cells, and all of them contain water. When these cells are well hydrated, they are plump and more elastic. This gives the skin a fresh and healthy appearance, and it’s a great way to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and blemishes. Internal hydration can be achieved by drinking water, and this can be supplemented with external hydration in the form of a good moisturizer. 

3. Water Can Detoxify the Body 

We rely on our kidneys to flush toxins out of our bodies, and any way we can support their function is helpful. The toxins in question are waste products and excess fluids that we don’t need, and they can build up over time. The kidneys need a continuous supply of clean water to function correctly and work at their very best. 

4. Headaches Can be a Sign of Dehydration 

Most headaches that we experience are actually an early indication that we are dehydrated. As we stated earlier, the brain is 80% water, and when we don’t drink enough water, it is quickly affected. The brain tissue shrinks and as a result pain receptors trigger and we experience pain. Before you reach for a painkiller, drink some water first, and you may be surprised at how quickly the headache subsides. 

5. Drinking Water Can Aid Weight Loss 

Drinking plenty of good quality water at home is a great way to achieve a healthy weight and tone up your body. Water is a zero calorie drink, and it also acts to suppress your appetite and negate any hunger pangs. Next time you feel like having a snack, drink a glass of water first, and you may notice that the feeling of hunger quickly disappears. Often when we feel hungry, we are actually experiencing mild dehydration. Water is crucial for every chemical reaction in our bodies, and this includes burning fat deposits.
